Trays, Takai Hakuyo, 1937
In the 20th century, lacquerware too was modernized. This included a new way of depicting plants: large, and naturalistically. In these trays great attention was devoted to the details of the marsh plant mizubasho and the sunflower. The colourful images filling the picture plane resemble decorations applied to textile. In fact, these trays were used to present kimonos.
