Clock case, Matthijs Horrix, c. 1780
Various woods and lacquerware, h 149.5cm × w 75.0cm × d 50.0cm More details
Princess Wilhelmina of Prussia had this case made for an unusual clock given to her by her uncle, King Frederick the Great of Prussia. Horrix’s case is shaped like a Chinese pagoda and is veneered with Japanese lacquer that probably came from the stadtholder’s collection. The clock’s movement is partly lost, as is the tall base that Horrix made for it.
