Brochure r(eclame), Piet Zwart, 1931
The brochure r(eclame) for the Rotterdam Advertising-Consultancy Bureau Nijgh & Van Ditmar is a visual manifesto of the expressiveness of modern commercial advertising. For each page Zwart created an eloquent montage of text and image. He clipped photographs and combined them with pithy texts and graphic elements, such as bars, stripes, and dots in black, red, and blue. Extreme differences in scale underscored the sense of dynamism.
